Top Status
With the Sense-U algorithm, we can identify whether your child is awake, in light sleep, or in deep sleep. You may also see Sock Shoe statuses indicating issues such as placement, connection, or a notification that your child needs assistance. A status like "evaluating sleep status" means the Sock Shoe is collecting data, but the algorithm has not yet determined your child's sleep state. This may take up to 30 minutes, or longer if your child is very active.
Current Sleep Session
This graph displays your baby's live sleep session, updating every few minutes. Based on our algorithms, it shows how long your baby has been asleep, how many times they woke up, and a breakdown of the times they were awake, in light sleep, or in deep sleep within the scrubbable graph.
Sleep Cycles
Light Sleep
Light sleep appears as a light purple color on the graph. It occurs when our algorithms detect your baby in light sleep, also known as active sleep or REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. During light sleep, babies may appear to be awake due to movements, crying, talking, or even having their eyes open. The Sock Shoe may occasionally have difficulty distinguishing light sleep from wakefulness during these moments. Light sleep is essential for your baby’s brain and body development. At birth, approximately 50% of your baby’s sleep is light sleep, but as they grow, this will decrease to about 30%—similar to adult sleep patterns. The Sock Shoe helps you track these changes in their sleep patterns.
Deep Sleep
Deep sleep is shown as a dark purple color on the graph. It occurs when your baby is in the deepest stage of sleep, the least likely time for them to wake up. This stage is also known as NREM (non-rapid eye movement) sleep. Deep sleep is the best opportunity to lay your baby down or sneak into their room without disturbing them. As your baby grows, you’ll notice more deep sleep, and eventually, it will account for about 70% of their total sleep. When your child is older, deep sleep can be broken down into three stages: Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3.
Awake
Awake is shown as a peach color on the graph, indicating when our algorithms detect your baby is awake.
Evaluating
If you see “Graphing sleep data,” it means we’re actively decoding your baby’s sleep states. Please allow up to 10 minutes for the graph to update as we analyze each sleep phase. It's like magic, but backed by science.
