What is blood oxygen?
Oxygen level refers to the amount of oxygen carried by the red blood cells in your blood. It is typically measured as oxygen saturation (SpO2), which is the percentage of oxygen-saturated hemoglobin compared to the total hemoglobin in the blood.
How to take a blood oxygen measurement?
- Make sure that your Sense-U Sock Shoe is snug but comfortable on baby's foot.
- Ensure your baby's foot remains still and in a natural position for at least 15 seconds.
- Please wait without disturbing the baby during this time.
Things you should know
The blood oxygen monitoring feature of the Sense-U Smart Sock is designed for general wellness and sleep quality tracking in healthy babies. It uses reflective PPG (photoplethysmography) technology1 to provide trend-based insights into blood oxygen levels. Due to the limitations of reflective measurement, such as sensitivity to motion, skin tone, and positioning, this feature is not intended for use as a medical device or for the diagnosis, treatment, or monitoring of any medical conditions. It should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice or as a basis for medical decisions. If you have concerns about your baby’s health or oxygen levels, please consult a qualified healthcare provider for clinical evaluation.
Additional factors
Even under ideal conditions, the Sense-U Sock Shoe may not be able to get a reliable blood oxygen measurement every time. For a small percentage of users, various factors may make it impossible to get any blood oxygen measurement.
Skin perfusion (or how much blood flows through skin) can impact measurements. Skin perfusion varies significantly from person to person and can also be impacted by the environment. For example, if the environment is too cold, your baby's foot may have reduced blood flow, making it difficult to obtain an accurate measurement.
Motion is another factor that can affect your ability to get successful background or on-demand measurements. Certain foot positions or excessive movement may also impact measurement accuracy.
If the resting heart rate is too high, the Sense-U Sock Shoe may not be able to obtain a successful blood oxygen measurement.
1. The accuracy of blood oxygen measurement is ±3% when worn properly.
